3" Ransomes Steam Tractor

The 10th and final model of talented model engine this 3” Ransomes is a true credit to the builder showing what years of passion and experience can create, it is one of the finest 3” engines we have had in and runs as well as it looks.

Built referencing the 2” John Haining design and full-size engines this 3” example is believed to be the only example in this scale. With no castings available all parts have been fabricated or machined from solid except for the drive differential which is modified to suit 3” Burrell castings. The cylinder block is a double-high arrangement for ease of starting and extra power when on the rallyfield but as you can see, she looks like a compound as per the full size. The paintwork is to a high standard and really sets the engine off nicely. The vulcanised rubber tyres and removable canopy make it a practical engine for rallying.

The steel boiler is from Bell Boilers and carries all the necessary CE marking. It runs at 125 psi and is water fed through a crankshaft driven pump and steam injector.

Although completed in 2017 the engine arrived with us in un-steamed condition having only been on display and ran on compressed air. We steamed it once for the steam test and apart from a couple of small leaks on the glands performed faultlessly and ran beautifully. The glands have been sorted so the new owner will get an engine that has only been steamed only 2 or 3 times.

The Ransomes comes ready to rally with a set of firing irons, blower and driving trolley. A days tuition is also included. Size wise she is for all intents and purposes the same size as a 3" Burrell Traction engine.

Viewing is welcomed at our premises near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk or delivery can be arranged if required. Export also available. We are happy to consider part exchange of all steam and other vintage vehicles.
